In 2016, Jane Goodall spoke at the International Primatological Society meetings. She closed her talk asking everyone to thank the primates we studied not with applause, but with their calls. And so a room full of Very Eminent Primatologists made delighted monkey noises to Jane Goodall. ⚱️🐒🧪🌍

Just out! My newest paper on "The Molecular Basis of Punctuated Equilibria." It was so awesome taking part in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the theory of #PunctuatedEquilibria. I got to meet so many awesome scientists in the field & it was such an honor to be a part of this. ❤️

NIH announces that it will move all grant reviews to Center for Scientific Review (CSR) and terminate about half of its review staff.

This comes as there is already a building backlog from cancelled review meetings and layoffs.

"We're already massively behind schedule," a review officer tells me.
NIH centralizes peer review to improve efficiency and strengthen integrity
The proposed approach is expected to save more than $65 million annually.

Working on a story for @sfchronicle.com about the administration's impacts to science, including #NIH and #NSF funding. Hoping to chat with early-career scientists, especially grad students and postdocs, about how you've been affected. Thanks!

🌍 Who Are the Global Elite?

A @wiley.com study maps where the global elite go to university - Harvard leads, Anglo-American credentials dominate, but 'home bias' persists.

But what is the global elite & how does education shape power?

I wonder if folks with #autism have more challenges with “relational value” & judging how others value us… 🤔
🧠 How We Learn from Rejection

Social rejection hurts - but it teaches. A @pnas.org study finds the brain tracks two lessons: relational value (how others value us) & rewarding outcomes.

These insights guide us in building supportive relationships.
