Does anybody really know what time it is?
Does anybody really care?
If so I can't imagine why
We've all got time enough to cry
There is no pain
You are receding
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying

A thoughtful look at the seals and selkies with which we’ve long shared these islands, from @cammy-06.bsky.social.

(Sadly the superb @sapiens.org magazine that published this piece runs out of funding at the end of 2025. Enjoy it while it exists!) 🦭
So good, by @cammy-06.bsky.social @sapiens.org: "Selkie stories often centered female autonomy. Female selkies choose their partners, return to the sea leaving families behind..Giving voice to women’s agency, these narratives shape reality, empowering human women" #Orkney #anthropology #multispecies

My apologies to all Australian and English cricket folks, but this was the funniest possible scorecard to wake up to, given all the hype and the build up and dramatics around the Ashes.

"We don’t need new policies—we have solid policies. We don’t need more talent—we have incredible cultural producers and we have an interested and engaged public. Our struggle [is] to build viable institutions... responsible for keeping African heritage spaces open and alive." - Ngaire Blankenberg
Who cares about African heritage?
While the world debates restitution, Africa’s own heritage institutions are collapsing. The question is no longer who took our past, but who is keeping it alive.

I truly don't understand how @chrispappasnh.bsky.social frames his senate run as standing up for NH, putting people first, and fighting against extremists when his record in the house is ... basically this, over and over.
These 20 House Democrats just joined Republicans in voting to fully repeal DC's police reform laws.

Wiping off the books critical laws on use of force, transparency, and preventing violent cops from getting rehired.

They think that they should have more say over DC police than the people of DC.

This is good advice! I wasn't expecting my post to get quite so much traction, and I hope more reporters will be doing more reporting on this!
There’s a religion-related story getting some traction on here tonight from an outlet I’ve never come across, with details that raise lots of questions — so I’d want lots more confirmation.

Not gonna point to it directly bc of that, but I’d encourage folks to await more reporting on the matter.
