We think that retinas degenerate with time and that if all of us live long enough, we’ll get AMD or other neurodegenerative diseases.
But Greenland sharks manage to live for hundreds of years and repair their eyes.

The good news for today, scientifically speaking for vision research is that the NEI appears to have survived the budget reconciliation process in the House. And the NIH budget was not decreased.
This still has to go to the Senate, but the National Eye Institute still lives in the House bill...

Just found out NEI science communications Director was among the ones purged by the recent NIH RIF. I personally benefitted from his work - he highlighted our NEI funded Neuron publication when I was on the job market. Every week I enjoyed his NEI research update. Thank you for everything you did.
