This was a brilliant talk from Dr Kevin Hall on weight changes, calories and how that all interacts with Ultra-processed foods.
Highly recommend watching it.
I even bought his book (despite my usual rule about not buying hardbacks).

BREAKING: Jane Goodall has died.

She was my college graduation speaker and an idol of mine.

What a hero. I’m heartbroken to learn of her passing.

Her groundbreaking work with chimpanzees changed science forever, and her tireless advocacy inspired millions to protect our natural world. RIP 🥺

Is it too obvious to point out how gendered this is: that the right sees themselves as a collective husband or father, trying to enforce his right to the attention, care, and comfort provided by his wife and mother—that is, American liberals?

What counts as essential travel? How does this differ across people? What level of mobility can be sustained within planetary boundaries?

These researchers get closer to answering those questions than most. Wish this kind of thinking was more central to climate & transport policy making in the UK.

This is an absolutely brilliant paper that I can only recommend to all those interested in transport poverty/equity but also in sustainable transport/climate, and on how to reconcile the two.

I can only hope that it will have the impact it deserve

Big night in Cambridge for decarbonisation.

3 heat pumps together weighing 20t were lifted by a giant crane onto the roof of the Murray Easton Building at @caiuscollege.bsky.social @cam.ac.uk.

Hope Oxford forgives me for promoting the other place but I'm also affiliated with @cisl.cam.ac.uk...

His Dark Materials trilogy are some of my favourite books, but I had very mixed feelings about The Secret Commonwealth.
Nonetheless, can't wait to read this!

There are hundreds of reasons to decry the impact of social media on journalism, but something that's really been irking me lately is what I call (in my head) influencer solutionism -- the idea that there is no benefit to documenting or revealing a problem unless you also have the solution ready...🧵

- you clean up that banksy?
- sure did, your honour, leaving a perfect, permanent outline, imbuing the work with real fuckin gravitas while making its point better than the artist did himself just like you asked
adrianandshane.bsky.social
They erased the new Banksy mural in London. But the stain remains.
Side-by-side images of Banksy’s mural on the Royal Courts of Justice in London. On the left, the artwork appears faded and scrubbed, leaving only a ghostly outline of a judge raising a gavel over a protester holding a placard. On the right, the mural is fully visible in sharp black and white stencil, showing a judge in a traditional white wig and robes striking down at a protester who defends himself with a bloodied sign.

We explored how animal-related labels influence meat selection, and which psychological processes might explain those effects.

- We need better evidence on modal shift to ebikes, but it looks promising

- Ebikes can be really beneficial for those with chronic conditions - they can choose the level of assist&take part in sociable rides. But the bikes are heavy so they're harder to manoeuvre when you're off them/change a tire
