In writing dark romance, the phrase "meet-cute" is not cutting it. In my notes, I have "Strangers Meet and Draw Blood" and I don't know if that's a brilliant beat note from someone else or my own concoction, but it's good enough that I'm actually willing to take credit.

My notes for the WIP suggest that there's a chapter 2 pre-meet-cute meet-cute, but fortunately, I lost track of my notes on day one and managed the pre-meet tidily in chapter 1. Thank you, subconscious!

It's funny (is it though?) how little I want to share about my writing process until SUDDENLY I WANT TO SHARE MY WRITING PROCESS.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 1687:
You don't have to share your writing unless you want to. You don't need to talk to anyone about your writing unless you want to. You don't need to seek publication unless you want to. You can get 99% of the benefits of writing without doing any of those things.

If you aren't up for buying a darkish/spicy retelling of Jane Eyre, may I recommend buying Hark a Vagrant by Kate Beaton instead, because "Dude watchin' with the Brontës" is my all-time favorite bit of meta, and is possibly also a touchstone for my book.

Important to know about this book: 1) I basically hallucinated the first draft while sick with the flu; 2) when I put in a potentially divisive 3rd act scene, I took it out and put it back in and took it out and put it back in, about 60 times and that DOES sound like a sex scene pun and I'm sorry

Finished Diavola by Jennifer Thorne, which almost scared me too much to finish--until I started reading it in the spirit of my former latchkey kid self, whose daily returning home ritual was walking around the empty house with my cat, turned paws-out, ready to wield her like scratchy death.

Hello, I'm a pseudonym. I'm about to release a dark romance version of Jane Eyre. Join me on the adventure of my sideways life in Michesota, where I work in a magical library and always take the scenic route when relating what should be simple anecdotes.
