This letter appeared in the Yorkshire Evening Post on 26 August 2025. Jas Olak, Vice Chair of Leeds for Europe, highlights the fact many one time Leave voters now support rejoining the European Union. That change of mind is much more positive than just throwing abuse at campaigners for rejoining.

Brexit also meant the UK left the Dublin Regulation which allowed asylum seekers to be returned to EU countries

Here's a fact for you all.

Prior to 2017 there was not a single documented case of any individual travelling by small boats across the English Channel to caim asylum in the UK.

Not ONE.

This current 'boats' crisis has been largely caused by Brexit.

But for some reason NOBODY is saying that.

People know Brexit doesn’t.

Brexit leaves the UK in a structurally weaker position, bleeding money, time, efficiency and opportunity daily.

UK media analysis of US-EU + US-UK 'deals' fails to take account of fact UK is more vulnerable to Trump's tariffs. US takes 15% of UK goods exports and -when intra single-market trade included - only 8% of EU Member States' exports. Also easier for EU MS to replace US customers with EU ones.
