Civic engagement! I know as much as I do about my current city because people in my former city live tweeted meetings and showed me how easy it is to engage in digital formats. I met former mayor @jamiebova.bsky.social because of social media!

Just FYI @gravelinfluencer.bsky.social and bike squad: zero bad car interactions, zero car people angry that we were in the street, no nonsense that I saw. We love it, especially on a night ride!

Highly recommend riding around southern Newport with 60 of your @bikenewportri.bsky.social friends to admire the moon and water. Barring that, go check out the harvest super moon before she sets.

Wait, this is … wild. This is a big car, sure, but it’s a fairly normal height for a large SUV, which is a very common vehicle now. Especially for families, meaning this is a car commonly around a lot of children. We have no perspective of how dangerous cars are because they’re so normal to us.

Also learning how tall the average car in America is vs. the height of a school age child has cemented my anti car sentiment. We don’t need cars that can crush a whole row of kindergartners without noticing.

Like why at this point is the level of interaction important. I also understand not wanting to cause panic but “obey rules so as not to hit kids with your car” is like…not controversial?

I understand the inclination to want to be technically correct in the vein of - being struck head on vs being past the car and still being hit but sideswiped rather than run over … but also - this is gross. A child was hit by a car! That’s the takeaway.
