I couldn't have possibly seen movie tariffs coming okay. Lock me in a room for a week with nothing but a constant IV drip of LSD and a typewriter and I couldn't have expected that.

Oh.

What's coming is even bigger, says John Ullyot, who survived the first Trump Admin but not these three months.

I'm sure that'll calm the markets.

It's true that FOIA doesn't apply to the Legislative or Judicial branch, but that (to my knowledge) doesn't mean it only applies to Executive branch agencies. There are random Federal groups that Congress didn't set up to be under the Executive, so it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
Gov't says USIP is actually part of the executive branch because "it's an agency because you can submit FOIA requests for it."

There are several levels of insane with this alleged EO, but the one I can't get over is that we're calling something a weapon that people are WILLINGLY CHOOSING TO RISK EXPOSURE TO.
SCOOP—Trump plans to issue an executive order designating fentanyl as a "Weapon of Mass Destruction," per copy of EO reviewed by me. Source at State speculates purpose is to designate cartels as terrorist orgs/justify military ops in Mexico/Canada.

Trump to declare fentanyl “Weapon of Mass Destruction," per draft EO

I feel like "illegal/unlawful based on current supreme court precedent" or similar would convey the status quo while acknowledging things can change.

I don't envy editors/writers having to deliver nuance these days while folks are getting their news shot from the hip of some TikTok influencer.
I'm definitely going to take some time to think about how I edit for situations like this in the future -- it is weird to bend news writing towards uncertainty about longstanding legal precedent just because this scotus is jank af.

Civic life in a pluralistic society thrives on choices, not conformity. The focus should be on ensuring a quality education is available to all children, regardless of class, culture, religion, location, or disability. Unfortunately, until PE is reformed, alternatives must exist.
I should also say I don’t think K-12 private schools should exist nor homeschooling be allowed.

Everyone should go to public schools and be required to have the same education regardless of class.

You shouldn’t be able to opt out of a common shared education for the sake of civic life. Send tweet.

I didn't think that, as an American, I could get more ashamed of how we're treating Ukraine but we outdo ourselves every day. American First will very soon be American Alone.
Gen. Keith Kellogg talking about the intel shutdown:

“Very candidly, they brought it on themselves, the Ukrainians,”

“the best way I can describe it is sort of like hitting a mule with a 2x4 across the nose, you got their attention.”

For posterity, I'm marking down my three leading theories on how this ultimately plays out.
Part of my fear about a Mexico expedition isn’t so much getting bogged down forever as it is we go looking for demons to hunt and the second the cartels gets a lucky shot or captured an American soldier, it’s Mogadishu 93 and the accompanying political shock.

Is it too late to re-coin "influenza"?
Musk admitted X throttles links, and Threads is only a little better. But social media's quiet war on links has been going on for years. I wrote about how big tech has been draining the open web's lifeblood and giving us "news influencers" instead of the news. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

“Even if limited to the Kursk region, ATACMS missiles put at risk high value Russian systems, assembly areas, logistics, command and control,” said @michaelkofman.bsky.social. “They may enable Ukraine to hold on to Kursk for longer and raise the costs to North Korea for its involvement in the war.”
