Whataver helps inspire you to understand what a character is like is helpful. Songs and music can excel at this. Choose a song, any song, then ask what the character would be like if that was 'their' song. They don't even have to be important - anyone can have a song.

I enjoy buying indie TTRPGs and immediately renaming them because the author decided to go with "game.pdf" or "final.pdf" (or "final1.pdf", which raises questions that ought to have been answered by the word "final"), but I think my favourite turned out to be named "pdf.pdf". Like, tell me nothing.

If you decide to include puzzles in your dungeon design, always have a backup plan. Because there's always a chance your players aren't going to figure out the solution. And if that's the only way forward, they're just going to bash their heads against the wall and lose all enthusiasm.

solution: ask artist to license existing artwork (that looks very similar in theme but WAY better) for one-time extremely limited use. Artist agrees. Artist gets paid, author gets non-AI, everybody is happy.
