There are certainly some working in the world of road safety who think in that way. It's why "road danger reduction" is such a better approach!

I know, I know at least one of those!

Well if nobody cycled then there wouldn't be any cyclists hurt, would there?!
By the same token, if nobody walked anywhere, we'd eliminate pedestrian injuries and deaths too!
I reckon I'm onto something!

I completely agree, although it needs to be fully centrally funded. "Free" bus passes for older people place an enormous financial burden on some local authorities, where government funding does not fully cover the cost.

I agree. I don't actually like Amsterdam centre very much. I like everywhere else I've been in NL much more!

Does that one I showed you in Poole fit the bill? Junction of Wimborne Rd and Fernside Road?

Ah I thought the technical bit would be in part B. I'm planning to look at it today/tomorrow, too, haven't even opened the email yet. Hope it's not as long as the rural guidance...?! 😱

Although I think Part B will be the bit I'm most interested in.

Yep, I was on leave for 2 and a bit weeks over Xmas so didn't get a chance to look at part A in time 🙄

Although I do feel a little bit bad that it's my A-level text that I was supposed to return to my school but evidently didn't... I don't suppose they'll need it back 25 years later (now I feel old)!

Consistently, over decades, making choices which make their streets better ❤️

To be fair the actual delivery of signs/lines on the ground is so inconsistent, he could be forgiven for thinking authorities make it up as they go along...! 😜

Umarrell is a word that I shall store away for future use 😅
January 11, 2026 at 12:36 PM
Oh I have.
January 11, 2026 at 12:35 PM
Ugh I know, I keep getting those as well. It's because of the "long tail" hashtag 😳

They exhibit a huge amount of respect towards each other in Japan - the thought of encroaching on another person's space is unfathomable, AIUI

Good for her!

Then the road is simply too narrow to park on. Full stop! There are no circumstances in which I can accept that someone's right to park their car in any given location should trump the rights of disabled people, people using mobility aids, or people pushing buggies to get around safely.

They are currently consulting on the new Manual for Streets, which is referenced several times. That will cover a lot of what you've mentioned. I'd have loved to see an intention for default 20mph in England but I knew that was unlikely!
