Many streets in the Netherlands once looked like those in the UK today. What matters is what happened next. Hoogeveen shows this clearly: a car-dominated main road in 2019, upgraded by 2024 with cycle tracks. Dutch roads are continuously improved to make cycling safer & neighbourhoods more pleasant

Must be about time that I re-read this...

Just ban it. Stop this being socially acceptable FFS 🤬

Wow. I'm in a webinar about the new road safety strategy, and a guy from the ADI has just said that there is no mandatory requirement for driving instructors to carry out CPD! So they could have been a driving instructor for 30 years and never have done any further learning in that time 😱

I've just skim read the entire Road Safety Strategy and can't see a single thing about pavement parking, which is disappointing.
There's some stuff in there that I welcome, but a lot that is frankly wishy-washy.

A rather astounding take by the Telegraph (I shouldn't be surprised)
Call me old-fashioned, but following evidence-based policy on reducing alcohol limits to reduce "killing off" pedestrians and other road users seems pretty sensible.

It's not actually obligatory to drink booze in a pub, plenty of modern non-alcoholic options.

Also let's improve walking routes!

I don't think there are many finer things to eat than a slice of warm bread, fresh out of the oven, with butter. I say "slice"; it's very hard to stop at one...

Poole Harbour was looking particularly gorgeous today 😍 Lots of people out and about despite the cold.

Despite having not yet wrapped any presents, prepped any food or cleaned my house ahead of visitors arriving for Christmas, I have just inexplicably spent the past two hours painting my skirting boards... 😩

That's me done (work wise) for 2025! Laptop shut down, large G&T in hand, pie in the oven and two weeks off to look forward to.
What a year - some really great schemes, the Active City conference, showing @rantyhighwayman.bsky.social around my manor, and my LA reaching level 3 capability rating 😁

I love these Christmas cards from @walkwheelcyclet.bsky.social (formally known as Sustrans)
I don't send huge numbers of Christmas cards but couldn't resist buying these 😊

Needless to say I am VERY happy with the outcome 😁
Testament to the hard work and progress made to date, but still SO MUCH work to do! *Rolls up sleeves*

Timeline cleanser.
This is Uni. She has ridden to work with her human every day in their bike basket for the last seven years. Has been offered many other forms of transportation, but refuses them all in favor of the Honey Baked Ham Express. 14/10 #SeniorPupSaturday (IG: unihalo)

Rainy days are a good time to notice defects and maintenance issues...

Makes me very happy to walk out of my local leisure centre and see a variety of bikes, despite the wind and rain 🥰

Pleased to report that punk's not dead - am at a live punk all dayer with my son and having a great time. Classic political quotes so far: "Farage and Trump and Johnson and all the other c*nts", "Suck a dick Kier Starmer", and "casual racist motherfuckers" 😂🤘🤘🤘

Is anyone aware of any useful guidance/info regarding the implications of Martyn's Law and active travel/accessibility? Lots of people are getting very excited about plonking barriers everywhere and I fear for the unappraised everyday repercussions of this...
