Artificial feeders have allowed the Anna’s hummingbird to expand their range out of Southern California up to the state’s northern end.

They have also driven a transformation of the birds themselves.

Note, they are going after a small journal to test the waters. If they went right away, say, after the Science Mag, everyone would have been up in arms. This way they hope to establish a precedent without alerting the community to the eroding freedom of expression.
