Garbage at The Midland. Shirley Manson’s voice is still 💯. Starcrawler was a phenomenal opener.

Sadly they announced this is likely their last big US tour due to the new economic reality of the US live music industry.

"The single most important behaviour, design or regulation for creating streets conducive to walking and cycling, was physical separation between the modes"

We've got a new study out, learning from a broad mixture of street users, planners and designers

www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Highlights
For marginalised street users mode separation is the key to human-scale movement.
Streets conducive to walking and cycling have functional, safe and accessible design.
Professionals must approach street design, regulation and user behaviour holistically.
Combinations of influencing factors persuade people to either use or avoid a street.
There are no easy fixes to the public realm that will work for all non-drivers.

Huh. On the flip side, I’ve heard the Whole Foods on 51st referred to as “the Downtown Whole Foods”

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Fo example, if transportation advocates can use AI to get more cars of our roads more quickly, does that mode shift offset AI's carbon footprint? Who can do the math for me???

Very cool! I've paddled a lot this year, but still haven't ventured out onto the Missouri.

There are a lot of ethical issues with AI for those of us in the nonprofit sector (carbon footprint, water usage, biased training of the robots, etc.), but there are also opportunities to deepen mission impact and accelerate mission delivery. Our usage must be a net positive for people & planet.

This week is The Week Without Driving. That can be challenging in KC, but could you replace one or two car trips with walking, biking, or public transit? Every little bit helps!

So, 2/3rds did not use the bus. How many used cars?

‘Around that time, Albuquerque police undertook a sting operation around shoplifting in Albuquerque called “Operation Sticky Fingers” and found that “ten of the 31 people arrested used a city bus.”’

For years this section of cycle track sat unfinished (paint-only) because the rich homeowners there opposed the ugly plastic flexposts used elsewhere. OK, message received 😂

This victim-blaming 🗑️ from @npr.org is terribly disappointing & empirically inaccurate. This should have been “8 tips for car drivers to stop killing people who are walking & biking”.

Journalism needs our support more than ever, but we need them to do better more than ever.
