Short version: using two county-level difference-in-difference strategies, we show that the Act had significant employment effects that began with a Senate precursor bill (USICA) and anticipated the actual CHIPS awards. Check it out. Final version will be posted soon.

NEW — In an alarming email last night reviewed by me, Coast Guard members learned that 1,135 members' direct deposit account routing information was compromised due to a data breach from unauthorized access.

It was only discovered because an officer “reported anomalous activity” on their account.

Letter to the Harvard community from President Garber

The administration's prescription goes beyond the power of the federal government. It violates Harvard's First Amendment rights and exceeds the statutory limits of the government's authority under Title VI. And it threatens our values as a private institution devoted to the pursuit, production, and dissemination of knowledge. No government-regardless of which party is in power-should dictate what private universities can each, whom they can admit and hire nire, ana which area.

Our motto-Veritas, or truth-guides us as we navigate the challenging path ahead. Seeking truth is a journey without end. It requires us to be open to new information and different perspectives, to subject our beliefs to ongoing scrutiny, and to be ready to change our minds. It's all a shame, because there's a version of tariffs - with industrial policy that builds leading the way - that makes sense.

And it's important to acknowledge that workers who have been beaten down by unfair trade understandably see benefit to well-designed tariffs.
