It’s glaringly obvious on the map there’s no cross river links east of Tower Bridge. Time to fix and ensure the foot tunnels are fully accessible #FixTheLifts #EastWestDivide @sebdance.bsky.social @london.gov.uk @pedalme.bsky.social @londoncycling.bsky.social

We've grown London's network of cycleways by over 450% since 2016 - enabling millions of people to cycle safely around the capital every week.

It took the council *five months* to answer a FOI ⬇️. If they knew lift status all along, why not relay to the public instead of keeping us all in the dark?! Six months of shoddy service to tunnel users since April! #GreenwichFootTunnel #FixTheLifts @inclusionlondon.bsky.social

Lift contractor monitoring system is ineffective! We’ve had NO north lift since April! Response👇from Greenwich Council re Foot tunnel lifts took nearly 3 months & only after we referred them to Information Commissioners Office. This *cross borough link* needs managing by TfL! @sebdance.bsky.social

Early morning feedback from residents on their way to work. Lime and Forest bikes obstructing the way. No signage in place like at north end (not everyone has a phone, has the time to check apps). Absolute disregard towards tunnel users. Time for TfL to take over management #FixTheLifts

Good to see TFL have offered help to Greenwich Council on Foot tunnel lifts, would be even better if they just took over the GFT. How about it TfL?! @sebdance.bsky.social @london.gov.uk ?

There are major flaws in the whole contractual and management system of Greenwich Foot Tunnel. Time for TfL to take over. @london.gov.uk @sebdance.bsky.social

Greenwich council is fixing the Greenwich foot tunnel's faulty north lift - still no updates on the Woolwich foot tunnel's north lift, which has been broken for over three years.

...for cycling in London - with too many areas still deprived of safe, comfortable cycle routes & the desperate need for more cycle capacity our routes already face. For those 1 in 4 Londoners who want to cycle more to keep pedalling, we'll need a lot more cycle tracks, crossings, and routes"... 3/4

Lift status Greenwich Foot Tunnel. No posters on the message board to warn people! Not everyone clicks on the QR code to council website which isn’t up to date anyway! North lift has been broken since 28 April! Many people are struggling up the stairs! @royalgreenwich.bsky.social

We hope Greenwich/Woolwich Foot tunnels(currently poorly managed & maintained)were on the agenda to help make London the world’s most walkable city! This will be in line with the Mayor’s policies on #ActiveTravel in his Green Economy plan for London/ March 2023. #FixTheLifts @sebdance.bsky.social

The lift contractor is now on site and north lift, which has been out of action since 28 May is getting fixed but we hope this will be a long term solution. The fact remains that this has been poorly managed over many years and thousands of users severely compromised.

This was the latest answer to a local councillor re information sharing but nothing yet.
escalatenow.bsky.social
It’s a bit soulless on the north side, a means to commute via the Superloop perhaps though we’ve noted people cross to shop in Woolwich.
escalatenow.bsky.social
We see the council is waiting for a date for a follow-up visit from the service provider for that south lift. And so it drags on!
Have you ever written an article about the tunnels (not the lifts!)?
escalatenow.bsky.social
Appalling people have put up with a broken lift for three years. Many flats are being built in the area so more demand for that tunnel. We’re wondering if property developers will be making any contributions via community infrastructure levies. It would make sense.

Update, Greenwich Foot tunnel north lift to be repaired but we’re not confident this will be long term. And now the south lift is broken.

Not sure why people leave in the middle! So many bikes have been left by the north lift that pedestrians can hardly move!
Anyway, as if by magic Greenwich Council updated the status!
escalatenow.bsky.social
Very difficult to see from half way. We’ve had less bike dumping recently because the south lift hasn’t worked since last week. With no clear messaging + Greenwich Council not updating online status regularly, tunnel users are having a hard time (4k a day)
escalatenow.bsky.social
The south lift generally works (not had an update yet) so ppl get in that lift, cycle as far as they can go with some getting to other side to discover lift is broken. Messaging isn’t clear, there’s no cross app interface system. That and lack of consideration.
