i think it CAN work, but it demands more empathetic, thoughtful and tactful writing, and dmcn does not have that, nor does it actually have the time to properly explore the parallels it's trying to draw. as it is it's just kind of halfbaked and offensive. it's a shame.

I think fandoms move on faster now in bulk and only leaving the stronger fans behind in a smaller number. The same happened with FFXIV with one very popular character. He died, his story ended, and suddenly a lot of people complained about lack of engagement. Basically many moved on.

The problem is that that is still impossible without all the stuff already taken to make the AI work the way it does in the firdt place. GenAI needs ridiculous amounts of data to produce what it can now and no studio can provide that from in house only.

In reality Larian is effectively training the theft machine to paint over/tracing the final output to make it look like it’s their work and not the extrusions of the theft machine.

Its a bad hat trick to give them just enough plausible deniability to not look like thieves.

Notice Vincke didn't say *exclusively* on data they own. It would be possible to get some open-source model on huggingface or something and custom-merge their shit into it. Which doesn't solve the problem of generated art being stolen

Unfortunately news sources are falling into exactly that and making their headlines "larian not using genai in concept art". It's misleading and people are going ohhhh everything is fine now yay 🩷
