AOC: We are going to have to reckon, as a country, with this time. And I hope that that reckoning includes prosecution of people who are involved with the lawbreaking and human rights violations they are knowingly engaging in right now.

I often think, involuntarily, about the New York Times editorial board putting out a long editorial on how America faced a crisis of free speech, which they defined as some people feeling like verbal criticism of their stated positions was too harsh, or at least might be.

The aggregation of 22 separate federal agencies, most of which had nothing to do with each other, into DHS was the second most corrosive post-9/11 action taken (after the passing of the PATRIOT Act) and I will die on that hill
Amid growing calls for the abolition of ICE, Rep. Delia Ramirez is calling for the entire DHS to be dismantled. Highlighting how much experience the officers who killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti had, Ramirez said, “DHS was built to violate our rights and has been empowered to act with impunity.”
House Democrat Says Abolishing ICE Isn’t Enough — DHS Must Go, Too
“The problem isn’t ‘training.’ DHS was built to violate our rights,” said Rep. Delia C. Ramirez.

Basically impossible to overstate the extent to which public masturbation over the idea of getting to kill people has been the dominant mode of communication from the right-wing media and intellectual sphere for years now.

The reactionary centrist logic is simple: if the left does something bad it’s the left’s fault, and if the right does something bad, it’s also the left’s fault for making them do it. It’s a simple formula and once you see it every one of their arguments is the same

they didn’t leak it to make the shooter look innocent, but to make the victim look guilty. not guilty of a crime. guilty of having a visibly queer wife. guilty of liberalism. guilty of opposing the regime. they don’t seek to exonerate themselves, only to demonstrate who deserves to die.
In the video that the shooter took, which I believe was leaked to be exculpatory, he appears to yell “fucking bitch” after he shoots Renee Good.

The biggest mistake liberalism made was to watch conservatives worship the constitution and “the founders” like idols for decades and believe they really meant it.

The constitution and the rule of law they hold dear are the versions in their heads where they get to do whatever they are want.

I happened to be in the room in 1998, when Hillary as First Lady, said to Israeli & Palestinian teenagers that she thought there should be Palestinian State. It created a diplomatic faux pas and the White House issued a statement disavowing the comment, and that it did not reflect official policy.
Hillary Clinton blames TikTok and “totally made up” videos for young people’s views on Israel and Palestine.

She says social media influenced “not just the usual suspects” but also “young Jewish Americans who don’t know the history and don’t understand.”

Is there an exact proportion of diasporic Jewish support for Israel at which the moral justifiability of their treatment of Palestinians changes?

And if there isn't, why do we ascribe so much importance to that proportion?
