People with trauma histories often interpret neutral cues as negative.
"You can come if you want." sounds to them like the person doesn't actually want them to come.
Affirming that you want them there helps remove any doubts.

Every year, I say that this is the last time I’m making Bûche de Noël because it takes all day and it gets tiring. Every year, I do it again.
A chocolate cake decorated to look like a Yule log, with lines in the chocolate ganache that make it look like tree bark, and meringue mushrooms dotting the top. There’s a layer of confectioners sugar snow and some green sugar moss.
