it also helps that 2d sprites on a dedicated battle screen avoid a lot of the problems more actiony games face if they want varied character shapes/weapon types

I also went through the User-Created Expansion Set scenarios, since they were also something I downloaded and never actually played through back when the game was current
In retrospect they also fall into some of the same pits as the official expansion scenarios, but at least they're designed better

you know, randomly throwing dots/areas of interest onto a map and doing after-the-fact biome setup afterwards feels like it could work fine as a random generation method

here's a basic proof-of-concept, as setting up the idea is easy and I have no intention of messing around with it anytime soon
