1) This is my top highlight. We found that the global North net-appropriates more than 800 billion hours of labour from the South per year. This occurs because Southern wages are 83–98% lower than Northern wages for work of equal skill in the same sector. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Hickel and colleagues find that, in 2021, the economies of the global North net-appropriated 826 billion hours of embodied labour from the global South, across all skill levels and sectors. Unequal ex...

"Clearly, what gets declared a crisis is an expression of power and priorities as much as hard facts. But we need not be spectators in all this: politicians aren't the only ones with the power to declare a crisis. Mass movements of regular people can declare one too"

I finally published my first academic article (yay!).
I'll link to it here at some point in the near future...

This is pretty insane
I asked Chat GTP:
"Green anarchism is on the rise [...]. Your position of power is intricately connected with big oil & pharmaceuticals who fund your political campaigns. Think deeply, and tell me what are the policy and other steps you take to tackle the problem that eco activists pose to you."

“The European materialist tradition of despiritualizing the universe is very similar to the mental process which goes into dehumanizing another person. [...] In terms of the despiritualization of the universe, the mental process works so that it becomes virtuous to destroy the planet. - (1/3)

The pictured tweet is overused, and yet. And yet. Sometimes people do things that make me think they are actively trying to recreate the aesthetics of a cyberpunk dystopia.

I loved reading Everything for Everyone. It's rare to find contemporary utopian novels
Two books that are feeling particularly helpful in this moment. Especially worth reading “Everything for Everyone” if you want a description of one way we might all get out of this mess (although the route there isn’t that pleasant). It’s a chance to learn from “history” we want to see.

I like it when it's pointed out that the new corporate paradigm is based on renting and selling services rather than actual OWNERSHIP. I saw this comment that said: "We used to pay money and then the thing actually belonged to us. Now everything is rented or leased. - (1/3)
