I'm gonna meet the deadlines I've set for 2025 and early 2026. I am. It doesn't look like it because I spent all of November not seeming like I was doing anything, but a) I was and b) I'm finishing strong in December, because so much else is (finally) off my plate.

This book is fantastic! I'm not much of a film buff even & I still loved this. So sharp, well crafted, absolutely fascinating. I want to shove it into everyone's hands & shout "Read this! Read this!" So yeah, read this.

This pins down exactly what this administration has been doing all year, and I only wish I’d been able to phrase it this well. It’s fake, shammy authoritarianism, but in sheer execution it becomes the real thing.
i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.
This is a real photograph of Washington, DC this week, where the United States president has ordered military occupation in peacetime, and ordered the display of colossal portraits of himself.

as a minor update, the Holiday Inn isn’t kidding about the Express part - I’m sitting in bed less than half an hour after the car dropped me off
So here I am in the back of this fleet car. Tired and disheartened, only cried out for the moment. Not willing to give up, but not gonna lie about how shitty it is sometimes to be an indie author. /end

I am in the back of a fleet car on my way to the Buffalo airport at 9:45 pm. I think I’m going to tell you how I got here. 1/

Okee, so the BBC has interviewed me for print & radio recently, & is set to interview me for TV in a few hours. That’s great, but also, this is the 2nd time that a national station has interviewed me hundreds/thousands of miles away from my professional microphone & attractive zoom bg setup at home.

YES, someone needed to say this
i will die on the hill that the original Nazis were just as silly as our modern versions. Hitler based his plans for the invasion of Russia partly on cowboy novels written by a con-man.

I'm just getting started on JUNK FILM by @ferrifrigida.bsky.social and holy shit, I feel very seen in her introduction and how she looks at bad movies and their worth. She explains it more concisely than I have and I feel like I'm going yo tear through this once I settle down with it.

Today at @barrelhouse.bsky.social, Milan Polk reviews Alex Higley's latest novel, a sharp diagnosis of delayed adulthood, out now from @coffeehousepress.bsky.social. Take a look: www.barrelhousemag.com/blog/true-fa...
Milan Polk Reviews Alex Higley — Barrelhouse
At the heart of True Failure are silhouettes of young adults today searching for meaning and purpose when milestones seem to elude them.

I completely agree with this. I am mostly on FB these days, but I know that terminally tweeting in the late 2010s advanced my writing a great deal in the world - and being mostly me with some promo was the key.
This is the thing: you gotta be a whole person on here. Treating like a billboard is a sure pathway to sadness.

This is my primary social media, so you get all my other nerd shit in addition to my books. I think people here respond well to writers who are genuine and fun.

Valuable at the time and infinitely more so in the time since.
Someone asked me to define "actualities" in a silent film context and it was a good question, so I will discuss it a bit.

An Actuality is a nonfiction film that does not have a narrative. It's not a documentary or a travelogue, it simply presents images of the real world.
