a big runoff last night, in New Orleans:

Calvin Duncan was exonerated after spending *28 years* in prison; he tried to get his own case records from the New Orleans city clerk—but the office dragged its feet.

So Duncan ran to become city clerk himself, and yesterday ousted the incumbent.
Calvin Duncan wins Orleans clerk of court race - Verite News New Orleans
Duncan, a political newcomer and former prisoner, defeated incumbent Darren Lombard by a wide margin in Saturday's runoff.

I just walked out of federal court where I pleaded NOT GUILTY to the charges against me.

I will continue to stand up to authoritarianism and call this out for what it is: a political prosecution.

Is the strategy to open the government in time for the holidays and to reintroduce SNAP just long enough for ACA subsidies to end so we realize how popular they are?

The complexity and inaccessibility of American politics to the masses leaves so much room for misinformation.

We should not be this alienated from our own governance.

The cloture vote is a measure to end the discussion and proceed to a vote on the CR.

There is no opportunity here because it is filibuster proof, meaning the CR will pass with a simple majority, which Republicans have in the Senate.

There is no hope here for a last minute change.

The final Republican Senator to vote is whizzing by my house at this moment to get from Dulles to DC to log in the last (60th) filibuster breaking vote on this bill.

Wild.

So wait, the Senate Dems who caved are now celebrating the passage of that House bill because they think getting the other side to promise a vote on ACA subsidies next month is some kind of victory?

So many people I care about endured a really hard 40 days just to end up with a verbal promise.

This Is Ground Zero in the Conservative Quest for More Patriotic and Christian Public Schools
Oklahoma has spent years reshaping public schools to integrate lessons about Jesus and encourage pride in America’s history. By the time the second Trump administration began espousing its “America First” agenda, Oklahoma had been there, done that.
