Back in the summer of 2023, after my cat died, I spent 2 weeks building a particle physics animation engine in Blender Geometry Nodes, entirely on intuition. I also built a system to record animations as curves so they can be played back dynamically.

And I've thought the same of game engines, for obvious reasons. Yes, here's a framework specifically designed to make games, but the truth is you can make anything with them (and people do!). An engine is just a collection of ready made program components, ready to be assembled.

So, accusing a language of only being good for games is a bit of a hollow insult. Like... oh, this is only good for drawing interfaces, handling user input, generating sounds, networking, and complex 3D math, all in realtime on lowest common denominator hardware. Gosh, how limiting!

A week or so back, I was listening to Ginger Bill, creator of the Odin programming language, addressing the claim that Odin is "only for making video games". It's really not, but the broader point Bill brought up is that games comprise essentially every field of computer tech.

The recent ICE raid which emptied an entire apartment building was apparently at the request of Wells Fargo, which is trying to foreclose on the building.
