legit cannot stop thinking about praying over burgerville

Apropos of nothing, Sec. Kristi Noem is currently praying over Burgerville with Portland ICE officials.

“Dear Lord, please help us vanquish our enemies (helpless brown kids that we trap in cages) and protect our neighbors (only the white ones) and feed the poor (only if we deem them worthy). And please make my hair extensions hold. Amen.”

btw the overwhelming majority of US earthquake deaths will not happen until an unknown date at some point in the next 100 years but I suspect we will see exactly the same pattern there

appreciate some data here to back up a longstanding sense that the most important ways to reduce fire deaths are:
- getting people out of old apartment buildings
- getting people out of single family homes

Love this new report on buildings' relative fire safety from @alexhrwtz.bsky.social and Pew colleagues.

yeah this is a core part of how absurd this whole thing has been. instead of “two blocks of downtown” like in 2020 we’re talking about a strip of road in a part of the city that most people never even think about

I feel like this is one of those areas where it’s particularly painful that the rest of the state does not see the vision for how real regional/intercity transit should be part of our economic development strategy

at a certain point it’s like sure go ahead and cut yourself off from every possible urban amenity and see what that does to your home value

Unfortunately it seems that the approved locations in waterfront park are not very visible and not near to where people are spending their time. We gotta get some spots in along the waterfront path.

Great for the other parks though!

Great news from Portland Parks. They've made it easier and cheaper for mobile vendors to set up at local parks!

Food trucks & other vendors make public spaces sticky & build community.

Hope this gives momentum to @councilorgreen.bsky.social hot dog ordinance. www.portland.gov/parks/news/2...

there’s no way it doesn’t get cheaper over time but at the end of the day they’re still competing against uber who doesn’t have to deal with vehicle costs at all

Syllogism time!

-- Real men are brave and strong.

-- MAGA men live in the suburbs because they're afraid of crime in the city.

-- Gay men live in the city.
