This is not a photo of protestors in Portland “ICE fishing”, as clever as that sounds.

I can’t find the photographer so far, but it’s been online since at least 2013, and those are Toronto cycling cops, not American ICE agents.

Note the uniforms, shorts, bikes, and lack of masks.

Part of the confusion for Canadians (or at least *me*, lol) is our centre-left party is called the New Democratic Party (NDP) and referring to them as the New Democrats is totally normal.

Canadian opinion, fwiw.

All the violence from ICE and national guard troops in Democrat cities will normalize how American troops will treat Canadians when they make a move.

Doubtful we will be able to get any help from US citizens who would normally be appalled.

I’m convinced the main reason Miyazaki films have a reputation for being “cozy” in the West is because he actually writes and animates long moments of quiet into his stories, whereas Western animated films are usually a nonstop parade of loud music, sounds, noises and neon colors.

Miyazaki: in this movie two young girls (one is a toddler) are uprooted from everything they know to start new lives near the rural hospital their mother is in; she is possibly dying of TB. Their dad works several hours away and they are largely unsupervised.
