This is the most accurate depiction of the Midwest to date. Wichita has always felt like the last Midwest city while also being the first plains city.

When It comes to local politics, you can be a freak like me and pay attention to everything, or you can do the shortcut and ask your landlord who you should vote for and then vote for the other candidate.

Shelley Madore doesn’t actually live in Ward 2 — she rents an apt in Prospect Park to claim residency. She also accuses Robi of grandstanding rather than practicality… the same @robin4mpls.bsky.social who’s passed more unanimous legislation than any other CM.

Minneapolis Ward 2 election could play pivotal role in City Council control

This thread is an example why we should oppose deployment of local or state police to “protect” protestors in relation ICE/Fed aggression. It will multiply repression of protestors, not reduce it. Shitty move by Pritzker and a move Dem governors are likely to make.

Couldn't be our mayor in Minneapolis

I can’t believe I’m watching interviews of city mayors talking about how they are coordinating with other mayors to discuss how to protect their residents FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

I know we are “used to it” but it is absolutely insane

WHAT???? That is incredibly creepy.

Is it normal for a mayor to comment on a city council member's Facebook post with a rebuttal that is mostly an attempt to shame said council member? I'm genuinely asking. It seems odd that Frey would comment on @jchavezmpls.bsky.social's post. But maybe I just don't follow Facebook closely enough?
Dear neighbor,
It breaks my heart to hear the anti-immigrant bigotry being lobbed at street vendors on top of community members threatening ICE on them. This behavior is abhorrent and has no place in Minneapolis.
It’s also come to my attention that the police are being called on vendors, which is creating deep fear. I am writing this post to update you all on the street vendor situation in Minneapolis.
Mayor Frey’s administration has made it clear that the next level of enforcement for unlicensed vendors will involve criminal citations, discarding of food, and possibly taking vendor equipment.
I will not be co-signing this punitive approach that could lead to the deportation of immigrants and impact their immigration status. I do not support this action and strongly condemn this approach.
My office has been working hard to find solutions, which includes passing a new ordinance, reducing the fees for a permit, and establishing a program to help vendors pass and take tests. I continue to believe a comprehensive approach can help us address these issues.
Issuing citations is not the only way to enforce regulations. This criminalization approach risks damaging the trust and relationships in our community. This is not how we should welcome our immigrant neighbors. Instead, we must lead with compassion and understanding. An immediate solution that does not involve the criminalization of immigrants, people trying to make a living, and vendors would be to allow them into our parks to sell food, as we wait for residents to pass their exams and acquire permits. It could help alleviate the concerns of community while still allowing working people to make a living. Council Member Chavez,
As you know, City staff has been working directly with your office to amplify these efforts. Staff are already providing unlicensed vendors with education, translation, and training so they can comply with the health code. But we still have a health code—including City regulations you passed—that cannot be ignored. Our staff enforce these codes based on a concern for public health. Period. That’s their job: to support small businesses while upholding the laws you helped craft. Our ask is that you resume working with City staff to ensure food safety and advise these prospective vendors to operate legally and successfully.

Every year park board candidates pretend there's nothing political about parks but 1) they are running for office
2) the park board budget is $155M. 3) the park board runs their own police department

Reader has passed along an unsolicited mailchimp pushing a slate of "apolitical" park board candidates. But it's signed by some of the most political people in Minneapolis. CAN'T FOOL ME!
Vote to Elect a Mission-focused and Apolitical Park Board

The strength and sustainability of our park system depend on it.

Dear Minneapolis resident,

We are Minneapolis residents reaching out to share both our profound concerns about the upcoming election of Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board commissioners and the names of candidates we recommend.

Our elected Park Board plays an essential role in ensuring a healthy city and equitable quality of life in our neighborhoods. As the principal steward of parks and recreation in Minneapolis, the Park Board is responsible for a robust tree canopy, clean lakes and rivers, and healthy ecosystems throughout our city, while providing parkland access and recreation opportunities for people of all ages.

We recommend the following candidates to ensure an independent, apolitical and effective Park Board wisely focused on its mission. Read about their campaigns by clicking their names in this list:

District 3: Kedar Deshpande (unopposed)

To be clear, I’m not knocking an 18 year old who chooses to run! Just noting that the argument of needing ten years residence in a ward is a bit specious
