Many Canadians have welcomed the early moves by the Carney government to knock down interprovincial trade barriers and cut red tape for infrastructure projects to ensure Canada’s prosperity. But while these measures demonstrate some progress in resisting Trump’s threats to Canadian sovereignty, the government’s actions elsewhere tell a bit of a different story. Notably, a series of bills simultaneously eroding Canadians’ privacy rights across various domains will heighten, not reduce, risks to our national security.

ONTARIO IMMIGRANT NOMINEE PROGRAM (OINP) - The OINP recognizes and nominates people for PR who have skills and experience valued by the Ontario government, but the Canadian government makes the final decision on PR approval. DRAWS - PR candidates apply in rounds throughout the year, this is called a draw. DRAW SCORES - PR candidates are chosen based on a points ranking system. *ECEs who have completed required post-secondary education, are registered with College of Early Childhood Educators and are working in the field are not ranked high enough for most draws (without additional university degrees). I'm old enough to remember the last time OpenAI was pledging to build a big stupid supercomputer called Stargate. Nobody wanna talk about this? How stupid this shit is? How absolutely stupid all of this god damn generative AI shit is?

I've been hesitant to outright say that we're in an artificial intelligence bubble, or at least I was until I read that Microsoft and OpenAI are currently planning to build a $100 billion supercomputer dubbed "Stargate." The six-year-long project is contingent on "OpenAI's ability to meaningfully improve the capabilities of its AI" according to The Information's sources, and would require "as much as five gigawatts of power." To give context, one gigawatt is enough to power 750,000 homes. The Information's story is vague about the progress required to launch Stargate — it's a multi-phase operation, currently "in the middle" of its third phase, adding that the datacenter would potentially cost $10 billion to build, and that half of the $100 billion total cost could be made up of specialist AI chips. The article is vague, likely because building Stargate is at this point somewhat theoretical. Microsoft allegedly has to find new ways to fit more GPUs (the graphics process unit that is used in AI compute) in a single rack (the way that servers are mounted in a datacenter), and find an entirely new way of cooling them to make Stargate run. It would also need to source enough energy to power an entire city.
