"well isn't it just your word against theirs?"

well no, actually, sometimes one side actually has the correct answer. how did this become such a difficult concept to accept ;-;

ah heck they're such a similar pair as toast and salad!
January 22, 2026 at 2:18 AM
very very very slow progress :( I think toast is maybe 20% closer to being able to spend time with her unsupervised, but he's still super vigilant whenever he's in the same space. thor is still too agitated, even when separated by a barrier

salad doesn't usually snuggle up close though (only when he wants to bother me at the computer)

he's a little different

sorry it's a reflex i keep saying salad every time i see salad

this tweet was written during tonight's trickle

by the time I hit send, my arm had gotten fully surrounded by cats
January 22, 2026 at 1:56 AM
thank you I'll let them know right away

ok but what about my cats accounts on here

yeah, it's a pretty big issue until you get the hover pack, which is super late game

imo satisfactory's buildings feel 140% sized and the player feels like 50% sized, and its making it hard to navigate and fit things in

another term for this is root solving! in a more general sense

you're pretty much describing my followup tweets attached to the original thread lol

my reasoning is that

1. in most cases, I think it will be somewhat close to a linear line, with some wobblies. this means the initial guess is probably very close in general

2. a linear search is generally faster for cache reasons. a binary search would likely be slower, and has to iterate more
January 20, 2026 at 6:19 PM
gonna do this for now, I think it's generally fast!

1. assume a linear uniform Y value distribution
2. find gy, the y index of yt
3. use index gy as an initial guess gx for the interval we want to find
4. linear search in the direction of the target value

in my example, it's just one iteration

it's for a generalized math utility, so that I can write a single implementation for multiple different data types
