This is probably the major legacy of Gamergate at this point: the creation of a parallel economy of rage-baiting grifters continually trying to spin up “controversy,” generally aided by media outlets who are equally interested in farming attention. It really fucking sucks
There's no "controversy" over The Witcher 4, it's just gotten picked up in what is now a cottage industry of YouTube-based outrage content farming by people who have zero actual investment in or understanding of the things they cover multiple times a day, every day

too many cis people have internalized the past decade of transphobia about how if they make a single minor mistake towards a trans person we'll go supernova meanwhile most trans people i know are hesitant to correct anyone on anything because they don't want to make a thing out of it.
