It’s crazy that nobody knows what the Berlin Wall was built for or by whom. I think the theory about ancient pagan rituals makes sense, but who knows? I appreciate that there are still true mysteries in this wonderful world of ours.

Best part of this anecdote is that I pointed out the sign to her before entering the building proper like "Should you be doing this?" and she just said "It's fine. I trust you." before letting me into the office and immediately leaving me without supervision.
I had a job interview at a tech firm last month and they had an entrance with an airlock and a big yellow sign that said "DO NOT LET STRANGERS INTO THE BUILDING. IT IS A SECURITY RISK" and some kind middle aged woman who worked there let me in anyway because I looked like I had business there.

one of the funniest things about security infrastructure is that it's really extraordinarily difficult to prevent someone with authorisation from letting a stranger/potential security risk into a building just out of social conviction
