A movement that demands grace and empathy whenever someone from their side suffers while offering none to the other isn’t really a movement that gives a shit about anything other than power and control
utterly incapable of grace

Mr. Speaker, can you comment on the president’s social media post about Rob Reiner after he was murdered?

I didn’t see the post. I’ve been very busy. I work 22 hours a day.

There’s a specific mechanism in authoritarian movements that we’re seeing play out in real-time across American media and tech. It’s a simple rule: "If we cannot co-opt it, we must destroy it."

It is the logic of "scorched earth." It's the logic of the Nero Decree and it's happening right now. 🧵

As Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis stated in 1933; “We can have democracy in this country or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of the few, but we cannot have both.”

Today, at a time of unprecedented income & wealth inequality, his words ring truer than ever.

Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.

Poverty is a policy choice. Concentrated wealth is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. None of it is natural or inevitable. Remember: We have the power to build a system that serves the many, not the powerful few.

Wanted to make a longer post about the mass shooting at Brown and found this post about Sandy Hook from 2012 and how sad is it that I can literally copy paste the exact same post because gun violence has only gotten worse without federal legislation to stop the ~40K annual preventable gun deaths.😓

Heartbreaking and horrifying to go to bed reading about the mass shooting at Brown University and wake up to read about the mass shooting at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach. Thinking of the victims, their loved ones, and those affected by the hate that drove these attacks.

I’ve seen two kids post that the Brown University shooting is the second school shooting they’ve survived.

This should enrage and radicalize everyone.

Kids shouldn’t have to survive one shooting, let alone two.

No more thoughts and prayers.

It’s time to address the guns.

Two victims of previous school shootings — Mia Tretta, who was shot in the stomach in 2019 at Saugus High School, and Zoe Weissman, who survived the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School — are now at Brown. Gun violence is out of control in this country.

The Democratic Party's formula for the last 50 years has been "Let's be friendly with extreme wealth and maybe we can also get modest policy wins sometimes." The last 10 years and this year in particular should be conclusive proof of how badly this has failed. But we're stuck with it anyway

Ultra wealth tax and 90% marginal tax rate on income above a certain threshold is actually the "moderate" position
The world's richest 0.001% now control 3x as much wealth as the entire bottom half of humanity combined.

56,000 wealthy individuals have more than roughly 4 billion people.

Read that back.
Just 0.001% hold three times the wealth of poorest half of humanity, report finds
Data from World Inequality Report also showed top 10% of income-earners earn more than the other 90%

Plot twist: Dems genuinely don't want to win back working people, which is why they won't uniformly enact this bare bones agenda
Medicare for all, paid leave, universal childcare.

Busting up big corporations and tackling Wall Street’s greed.

Getting big money out of politics.

Supporting unions and fighting for higher wages.

If Dems want to win back working people, this is the agenda they must support.

This should be the biggest story in the country right now. The sitting US President was extorting state lawmakers from his own party by threatening to withhold public money if they didn’t gerrymander for him.

I don’t know how else to say it…

If you still need evidence that this was never about “legal immigration,” I’m not sure what to tell you. This person followed every rule, showed up to their oath ceremony, and was arrested anyway. This is cruelty as policy, not public safety.
“She showed up as scheduled, and when she arrived, officers were asking everyone what country they were from, and if they said a certain country, they were told to step out of line and that their oath ceremonies were canceled.”
