Progress update!

I've been focusing more on strength over hypertrophy for the last few months, and the strength gains have been ridiculous.

I'm very close to a few 3 plate goals, and then I may hop back on the hypertrophy train. I miss the pumps and size XD

Never really feels like I've progressed much until I stumble across old pics in my phone. 2017 in this case 💪🏽🦦

What do you do when you miss a session?

You pick up where you left off

That's it

A common mistake is to try and do twice as much to "make up for it" but why?

The race is only with yourself.

If your training is good, you can't adapt to twice as much!

Accept it - carry on as you were>

If you are a relative beginner (<1.5 years of regular progressive training) you should not be "bulking" or "cutting"

You should just be training

Unless you're actually planning on doing competitive bodybuilding and have adequate lifting experience to justify these cycles, you may NEVER need to

Victory is built in small increments

Success is learning to be satisfied by challenges that seem well within reach
a word for setting incredibly low goals for yourself:

I decided I was going to try to write 300 words a day to get a new, lower-stress habit established. I now have 10,000 words on a project I started three weeks ago.

True now as it was true then
For this new year

Make your fitness goals really bloody easy

Like I'm talking ridiculously easy

Not even remotely lofty

Do your first ten sessions of squats

Run once every week for the month

Learn how to bench press

Fuck all or nothing, it's time to do something or something

One of the easiest ways to improve your health for most people is to half your salt intake

As per the CDC, >89% of adults in the US eats excess salt

You can do that by getting salt substitutes (usually potassium based) in your cooking

If you don't cook, make sure you read packaging to know

Good: got back into running more seriously
Better: without a doubt nutrition/hydration
Unexpected: fitness comes back fast
Explore: 50k trail race, perhaps?

- Good things: I grew some hair on my shoulders.

- Things I could do better: Being strong enough to lift ANYONE.

- Things that were unexpected: My belly is both soft and firm at the same time.

- Things I want to explore: Medicine or surgery to become a huge hairy monster with big teeth and claws.

Definitely added lean mass, got much more conscientious about control and eccentrics, took a step back with leanness and discipline but I moved on from the rut of my old coach and am making progress still! 💪😁

Smashed a marathon time goal of 3:24:29 when the goal was 3:30:00
Benched 315 lbs in January (looking to get there again soon)
Always finding new ways to optimize my nutrition/performance!

I would say I've dominated 2023, and its going to be even better in 2024

Time for the Sub 3 hour marathon! 💪

Things you do NOT need to wait for to get started with exercise:

- getting your diet "sorted"
- having a perfect plan
- living closer to a gym
- having a gym membership at all
- knowing how to do the exercises perfectly (gotta do em badly first to get better)
- the right mood

Be aware -

Goals and plans are fundamentally completely different things

Goals are the WHY - they are the meaning behind what you do, and act as a motivational totem for you to continue working on something you care about

But goals do absolutely nothing to actually get you there

You need a plan

Your body does not know what a week is

So why worry about whether or not your normal training cycle fits into periods of seven days?

You want to do a three day split but you've only got two days a week you can train? Then just... spread three days over two weeks

Miss a session? Do it next>

It's easier to exercise when life is less stressful

The internet can make it seem like everything should be a grind and you struggle because you don't have MOTIVATION, GRIT, and DETERMINATION in the face of ADVERSITY

The reality is - the more stable life is - the more you can do - including train>
