heads up that bluesky doesnt show posts from other languages by default on your timeline, and its cutting you off from a lot of the community
go to bsky.app/settings/lan... and deselect any language from this setting, or else you might not see any of the new japanese users at all!

There is a crazy passivity to the common conception of the dream of “becoming a writer”, where you find the right entry point and you are accelerated, bobsled run-like, to fame and fortune.

Talking to one of these types at a con who asked how I 'got in' with so many 'famous writers' who I'd been talking to and I said "we made friends before anyone knew who we were decades ago by striking up interesting conversations and enjoying each other's company" and he kept re-asking the question.
They have come to the convention hoping to "break in" and then find themselves -- shocker! -- a "nobody in the book world." Yeah no shit! We all are! I have gently told guys like this a million times that it takes most of us *years* of hard work but they do not believe that could be true for them. +

As a person who works in tech, it's not new to me that companies are using more AI than the average person is aware of. Of course they are. It's TECH. Their entire mindset is "if we don't jump on the newest thing, we're gonna fall behind and potentially lose money!"

When I finally found out how to type an em dash many years ago, that was the beginning of the end because I literally could not stop using them in my writing 😂
Really upsets me that people see one and say "it's AI" because they just don't read books anymore. Mf AI stole that from US WRITERS
