It's a high bar, but this from @radleybalko.bsky.social might be one of the most fucked up things I've read in the new Trump era. For context, this TX lawyer had just had an informal conversation with a family caught up in ICE raids.

Seriously. Read this. radleybalko.substack.com/p/the-courag...

This guy has kicked so many people when they’re down, I just know it.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s top adviser, Dan Caldwell, was escorted out of the Pentagon after being identified in a leaks probe.

The criticism of Matt Yglesias isn’t clever or thoughtful. It’s either meaningless reactionary anger or just made-up gotchas.

I had hoped that was exclusive to the right, but Bluesky has shown me that Dems have a solid base of dipshits too. Maybe red and blue America is more alike than I thought!
Love the kinder, gentler social media site where we don't have the hate speech.

The weird leftist pile-on of Matt Yglesias makes me feel hopeless about our chances against the right.

If he’s the guy that liberals want to kick out of the tent what the hell are we doing here? How do you propose to win independents if he’s too right-wing?
You know that drill meme where the guy is begging not to put in the newspaper that I'm mad?

I am the opposite of that. I am genuinely very angry that lots of people are lying about me. Maybe I shouldn't be. Maybe I should just get over it. But I am sincerely very angry about this.
Why are you bothering to argue with a rando with 150 followers? Stick to takes, man!

Bluesky needs more ideological diversity, a thread:

1/8: I think the question of why commentators like Matt Yglesias, Lakshya Jain, Noah Smith, Nate Silver and Richard Hanania don’t post more, or at all on Bluesky is important.

This would be a better platform if they did.
I like posting on BlueSky because I think I’m the most right-wing person who uses this service.

I’ve always thought Cabot was the shit. Now I know I was right!
Cabot Creamery is voluntarily recalling more than 1,700 pounds of butter in seven states after testing found that the products had elevated levels of fecal bacteria, federal safety regulators said.
Cabot Creamery Butter Is Recalled Over Fecal Contamination Risk
The company said it was voluntarily recalling 189 cases of its eight-ounce, sea-salted Extra Creamy Premium Butter after it found elevated levels of coliform bacteria.

Meanwhile, in 2010, there would be like 3 weirdos in colonial garb claiming to be the Tea Party and it would be covered non-stop for a week.

Apparently this is the “intellectual” behind JD Vance’s governing philosophy, Curtis Yarvin. Of course it is.

Good article with a link to a picture of this dope.

Prediction: Right-wingers are going to fund Eric Adams to try and throw the election to a Republican.
Mayor Eric Adams of New York City said that he would not run for re-election in the Democratic primary, an acknowledgment of the growing backlash against his embrace of President Trump and his record-low approval ratings. He will run as an independent instead.

I guess Elon will have 4 years before he needs to worry about any kind of SEC scrutiny. It really seems like there’s some shady stuff going on behind the scenes.
Elon Musk just announced he sold X to xAI in a really unusual transaction that values the AI company at $80 billion and the social media company at $30 billion. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/28/t...
Elon Musk Says He Has Sold X to xAI
Mr. Musk said the deal valued xAI, his artificial intelligence start-up, at $80 billion, and X at $30 billion.

Democrats around the country are looking for someone to stand up to the bullying. I think NPR would have been better served if she stood her ground, pushed back, and made a play for more direct donations.
Trumps going to cut their funding anyway.
NPR CEO Katherine Maher says she regrets her years-old tweets calling Trump a fascist and a deranged racist: "I regret those tweets, I wouldn't tweet them against today. They represented a time when I was reflecting on something that the president had said rather than who he is."

Great article by @pkrugman.bsky.social

Especially liked this line about current environment:
“…a political landscape that demands not careful calculation but vocal, visible outrage, both to motivate the Democratic base and to get other voters’ attention.”

This is one of those hopeful messages that makes me worried Trump/Musk are going to be successful.

We don’t need to sacrifice our personal beliefs, but we DO need to be accepting of those we don’t 100% agree with if we’re going to defeat fascism.

If we aren’t flexible we’ll break.
i feel like i’m seeing a lot of moral flexibility and i just want to say that it’s not actually necessary to sacrifice your beliefs in order to succeed.

Thomas Paine was probably a real bummer at parties.
Just FYI, Tom argued for universal welfare, abolition, public education, state-sponsored pre/post-natal care, family subsidies, & retirement for workers at 50 w/state pensions that would double at 60.

He also considered the American revolution a failure, co-opted by self-serving, landowning elites.

Disturbing to think about the consequences of this. If Europe is smart they’ll start rapid military build up to protect themselves from the whims of Elon Musk, real life Bond villain.

Good question. 1st, need to say that ‘24 made me re-evaluate; I wasn’t this critical of Dems b4. Trump W really made me take a fresh look.

IMO, Dems tend to highlight race/gender in way that plays into R talking points. They should stop talking those things up.
March 8, 2025 at 11:11 PM
What a queen! Dems need to learn you don’t always need a 10 min speech. Just a solid “Republicans are big pussies” and then on with your day.
AOC: It's really because Republicans— they’re very thin skinned and they're very sensitive, and their feelings are very easily hurt. And so they have to vote on censure resolutions.

Why? Who is this meant to be good for? Nobody wants your shit AI books, never mind 8,000 in a year. Just a terrible idea and a horrible road the publishing industry is heading down.

Interesting anecdote: my buddy works in a post office in Trump country and he talked to his colleagues about Elon’s data breach. Key point; avoid raising defenses & don’t mention Trump at all. Result: many Trump voters hate Elon & are concerned about personal info.
Great article! As someone who has to interact with Trump voters I think the idea of a South African billionaire stealing Americans personal information is an issue that appeal across party lines. Who is he sharing our data with? Who else has access to our data? Where is it now?

Good article. A section that stood out:
“Nor did they vote to make Musk the co-president of the United States…. They certainly did not vote for a world where the president’s billionaire ally has access to your Social Security number.”
February 5, 2025 at 7:03 PM
Some good ideas here. Also, a great icebreaker for the independent voters in your life is to suggest they freeze their credit. Why? Because their data may be compromised by Elons interns. Get people talking about the issue.
They already know..-R’s don’t care and Dems are already speaking up while lawsuits are being filed .
