The new theology is that the joy of heaven is no longer the peace of being with God but the voyeuristic pleasure at watching those in hell burn and scream for a mercy that will never come.

I think there is an interesting angle on "The End of History" here where liberal democracy has produced a class of people so removed from material scarcity they turn against liberal democracy just to "feel something" (i.e. engage in teleological struggle)
My hot take is that the 'economic anxiety' excuse for Trump voters is ass backwards. Voting for Trump is an indulgence by voters who have taken the 15 years of post-Obama economic stability for granted and don't believe any of Trump's bullshit could actually effect their current comfortable position
