Day 22: Lapsang Souchong

my favourite tea I only drink a few cups a year of, because it tastes like a liquid forest fire (positive).

Happy solstice! It hasn't snowed yet where I am, but it's looking promising later in the week

UK folks - don’t forget to check you have the meds you need for the Chrimbo period

And remember there are processes (incl. NHS 111) to get emergency supplies of repeat prescriptions

Went to three shops today to find ground nuts. Now having to figure out how to balance egg whites and yolks across 5 different recipes in 3 languages, and figuring out what I can make glutenfree

I've wanted to start Christmas baking for a week and finally have the juice let's goooo

Magical ephemeral moment today as I'm wandering through the park and suddenly find myself in a gentle... snow shower? Under blue skies?
Looking up there's a small flock of birds industriously taking apart the seedpods of a birch, and individual seeds are placidly floating down onto my delighted head

Listening to Tilda Swinton read Nan Shepherd's A Living Mountain and it's fine except you can hear the italics on every Gaelic and Scots word (even if they're pronounced right) and generally it feels odd to hear a voice so anchored in Scotland read in a smooth RP accent

If you’re in the UK and were born between 1970-1990 you can just go to your GP and get revaccinated for MMR because you may have had single vaccines, which are no longer considered valid. I went & did it this summer. Easy way to help protect yourself & your community.
If you are worried this is too big an executive function barrier you can go to a pharmacy and they will probably just jab you. That is what I did.

I'm not saying it's necessarily the right way to do this, that is just how much I am not fucking around with the measles
Go to your doctor and get your measles titers checked to make sure you are still immune and if not get re-vaccinated. It’s more and more likely all of us are going to eventually come in contact with it.

Embroidery sets!

If you've seen TVY at shows often we'll have a box, or a teacup of embroidery skeins for you to choose from, but they've not existed on the website until now, so if embroidery is your thing, this is for you 🥰.

This is probably the largest art I've made in a long time; it's 16x48 inches at 300dpi. All of the animals are inspired by petroglyphs and cave art from around the world on top of the shapes found within the animals themselves. #art #caveart #petroglyph #deer #wolves #ravens #raven #wolf #elk

Can't wait for what I bet will be a fascinating discussion
This Thursday at 6pm GMT I'm giving a lecture with the wonderful @archaeoplays.bsky.social about how to conceive and build living images of the past. All the in-person tickets have been snapped up, but you can still watch online for free (I think via Zoom)

Carved in Stone: Bringing the Picts to Life
This hybrid discussion panel will feature Stout Stoat’s Brian Tyrell and ArchaeoPlays’ Dr Heather Christie FSAScot.
