Shada Islam can criticise Israel as much as she likes - accuse them of genocidal acts or even genocide itself, but to omit Hamas’s murder and rape of civilians 2 years ago that produced Israel’s response, however violent she may believe it to have been shows a profound lack of judgment.

Belarus rarely makes Western headlines — but it should this week.
A quiet move by the Trump administration has just handed Alexander Lukashenka, and indirectly Vladimir Putin, an unexpected gift.

The Tories are now against Shakespeare and the rule of law.

They want to throw the Britain’s greatest achievements into the bin.

There’s no way any of this is “conservative.”

So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to “defend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.
Badenoch: Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English
The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut

During the last parliament all of the great offices of state were at one point or another held by Tory MPs from ethnic minorities. Including the PRIME MINISTER.

Jenrick is trashing his own party’s record. He belongs in Reform.

It is sometimes and sometimes it isn’t. There are both economic and cultural factors going on. Vox in Spain is most popular in upper middle class areas for example.

Nostalgia seems a big deal across different social classes.

Why any party leader would want to turn what was once a broad church into an even narrower sect than it's already become, who knows? I've almost given up trying to understand her, tbh - except as a performance artist, maybe.

TIL that when John Adams made criticising POTUS illegal, contrary to article one of US Constitution, the first jailed under it (for criticising Adams for making the law) was Wicklow-born Congressman Matthew Lyon. A "natural provocateur", a "class warrior", got himself re-elected from jail.

This would be a test case for whether they object only to organisations that start with an “E” or to all those that have an “E” in their name somewhere

And: immigration policy isn’t just a matter of the sovereignty of the country to which people arrive

It also needs the country where they’re from to cooperate.

Immigration policy is inherently international like trade policy. You can’t actually do it on your own

On reports the Tories will back leaving the ECHR, Lib Dem Leader Ed Davey:

“Kemi Badenoch has chosen to back Nigel Farage and join Vladimir Putin by leaving the European Convention on Human Rights – a proud British creation championed by Churchill that protects everyone's rights and freedoms."

A new Explainer out from @aoifemod.bsky.social and me detailing the UK's ECHR commitments under the 1998 Agreement in response to recent speculation. It is short, because there is very little to say - the UK's obligations are evident on the B/GFA's plain text:
