I've followed politics for many years. Twitter was good place to follow people I respect who share honest opinions and news. Many of those people are showing up here so I'm making the transition. I very much want BlueSky to become the new public square.
This is one reason I quit the NY Times. The other is Ross Douthat, David Brooks, etc.

Seriously, does Ezra Klein really believe Trump is going to change and be nice?
KLEIN: “.. cruelty as the dominant culture repulses most people. .. Closed and cruel are on their way out. What comes next, I suspect, will present itself as open, friendly and assertively moral.”

This was my thought too. The excuse for the recent bad news: "we inherited a bad economy".
I’m no conspiracy theorist, but if I was… Trump fires the BLS commissioner last month after he didn’t like the job numbers…then put in his own commissioner…and now Biden‘s final year numbers get the largest downward revision in history? 🤷‍♂️ www.cnn.com/2025/09/09/b...

Seriously, follow @justinwolfers.bsky.social for straight forward, honest economic information and refutation of lies coming from this administration.
The White House claims that more jobs are going to native-born Americans:

"Yeah, it's not happening. What's happening is actually a fairly simplistic misreading of how these statistics are compiled."

Excellent historical summary by Justin Wolfers.
Lemme speak with directness and a sense of urgency about our most important economic threats, and what history teaches us about moments like this.

Government so small it’s literally just one dude.

Glad to see Justin posting these videos. We will see distortion in many agencies but this particularly taint at the BLS is very disturbing because it has been historically a non-partisan, respected organization.
BLS Commissioner is a role that has never gone to an ideologue. It’s been for data nerds who care only about numbers. Put in someone with a record of distorting data, and every figure becomes tainted.

Justin Wolfers cuts through the bullshit. I really appreciate his honest economic perspective. Paul Krugman is great too but Justin is another economist here on Bluesky worth following.

Let's focus on qualifications: Antoni finished grad school 5 years ago at Northern Illinois with no distinction. Dissertation: No focus on labor or data collection. Zero publications. One lifetime citation (by a former colleague).

This record would not earn you a job as junior economist at BLS.
Trump's nominee for BLS commissioner, EJ Antoni, is disastrously terrible. He's a 1200%, 1300% maybe 1400% in-the-tank Trumper, with few credentials beyond a history of misrepresenting or misunderstanding economic statistics. He has shown no commitment to truth

A rambling and incoherent Trump wants to turn DC into his personal police state despite a 30-year low in crime.

He's a pathetic wannabe dictator who wants to distract you from his connection to the Epstein files, skyrocketing costs, and his weak job numbers.

Don't let him.

This really make me angry. This jerk makes it his mission to dismantle our federal government, mainly firing public servants which inadvertently destroys the share value of his companies. How stupid can you be?

Sooo. Apparently that asshole has been using the threat of tariffs to extort countries into cutting massive deals with Felon’s companies.

And why not? He got away with extortion last time thanks to Mitch McConnell and Merrick Garland.

This is infuriating because apparently they are scared. How about change parties or if you can’t stomach that, become independent.
Chris Murphy: "I just don't know that our Republican colleagues will ever break. This is a cult that operates like a cult, and for the time being, if Donald Trump says that black is white or 1+1=5, the Republican Party is gonna agree with him."
