Once again, the imperial presidency, created by both parties during the Cold War, by passing laws allowing the POTUS to act like a king simply by using the magic words “national security” or “national emergency” w/o evidence, was a grave mistake, & if we make it through this, it must be dismantled.

co-signed. Parker has been better than any mayor of my lifetime at making progress on litter and garbage.

Still much more to do, but it's made me optimistic!
Philly’s overall sanitation plan is still pretty uneven, but I will say that under Parker my street started getting regular sweeping, twice weekly trash pickup & crews cleaned out alleys on both sides of our block www.inquirer.com/news/philade...
Philly has 16,000 alleys. Keeping them clean and clear is a big job.
Thousands of Philly’s alleys are plagued by trash, overgrown trees, roots, and even illegal gates. These workers get them clean.

THE WORST DEFENSE OF THE TRUMP TARIFFS:

I wrote in the newsletter today about how annoying it is to hear people talk about how we need these tariffs to reindustrialize and counter China in high tech manufacturing.

We were literally just doing that!

Links are good!
“Similarweb noted that Bluesky generated 38.6 million outgoing visits in November 2024, spread across a variety of news websites, while Threads generated 24.5 million referrals. However, the firm pointed out that 42% of Threads’ traffic was directing users to Instagram, not publishers’ websites.”

this is amazing
Today I'm sharing something I've wanted to build for a long time: A list of public companies and how well they're performing in Google.

Companies like NerdWallet regularly update investors on how SEO is impacting them.

Now I've (hopefully) made it easier to track — 100% free.

Also, holy shit, Bluesky sends real traffic. Will update this tomorrow with firm numbers but journalism is going to move here for sure. Twitter is a drop in the bucket. It's over, but we are so back, and so on and so forth

after 10 years of big social media telling us no one wants posts that link out to other websites, it turns out it was really just the big social media companies that didn't want that
So I don't check my analytics that much, but this is the first time I've noticed that Bluesky topped the list of referrers to Techdirt (for non-search based traffic, Google still sent a lot more).

The "free" growth techcos experienced from a rapidly upscaling Internet population has moved to a plateau.

From now on, time spent on sites/in apps is zero-sum, i.e. if someone wins, someone else is losing.

I just want a place where I can share links.
Here's my best effort to work out why Bluesky blew up over the weekend. Much more than Threads, it's a network that knows what it's *for* www.platformer.news/bluesky-post...

🎯
The idea that Bluesky is insular and X is a place for diverse views is a fallacy.

X is based on an algorithm rigged to push the views of Musk and others on the far right.

Bluesky is open. You can make it whatever you want it to be.
