I've heard this from so many students who go from some small town in New England or Midwest or the South straight to Stevens. How did you choose Stevens? I wanted to be in a place where something happens.

The success of multi-ethnic liberal cities violates the belief that racially homogenous, conservative places with white people (however they choose to define that) at the top are the best.

That's why they're trying to destroy those places.

Zohran's rent freeze on the rent controlled units, that people appointed by the mayor decide in general, is meant to repair from the exorbitant increases allowed by the blatantly corrupt current mayor Eric Adams.

Those increases in recent years were very high, defying market realities.

This qn shows how little people outside NYC understand the rent freeze.

New construction has nothing to do with rent freeze. His rent freeze only applies to a million or so units that are mostly 50+ yrs old & taxpayer funds help maintain. So mayor gets a say.

It's not a broad rent freeze.

Hochul can sit upstate and listen to upstate and think upstate but come reelection time, she needs that turnout & vote from the city. Look at this map from 2022.

So she will need the new mayor's help at least somewhat in the turnout. So she'll have to give in politically at least somewhat.

We'll see. Hopefully most of it. Rent freeze is completely in his control. More busways, bus lanes is doable. Free buses need Albany but Hochul is up for reelection next year. She can't win without the city voting for her in big numbers. In 2022, the city saved her. So Zohran will have leverage too.

We'll see. That's what the game is. Hochul is up for reelection next year and she can't win without the city. So he certainly starts off with local political leverage.

What comes across as defensiveness is a reluctance to have a pointless argument with someone I'm sure I agree with almost entirely on most issues. I didn't mean to minimize your concerns about him. I'm just not one to argue with about them.

As I said, I was originally a Brad Lander supporter. I wish he'd taken off.. He didn't. You seem to think I'm a die hard DSA Zohran fan. I'm not. My criticism was limited to big Dems still holding out, this late in the game. Of which Hochul already fell in line since we started our conversation.

Sure and your focus is to find and push justifications to not support him and mine is the opposite. I don't think there's a disagreement on facts here as much as on perspective and worldview. We can keep going back and forth but I'm sure we agree on 99% of actual issues. So I'm moving on.
