It’s time to stop saying that we need to understand these people. We do understand them.

We understand that they have dug in their heels so deeply, they will not be moved by anything: not facts or data or truth or their own eyes.

Corruption isn’t just a moral failure – it’s built into our political system
Corruption in politics is not an accident or an exception. It is a predictable outcome of a system that rewards loyalty, access and survival over accountability, transparency and the public interest.

My institution wants us to lower the cost of textbooks, etc. for students. The goal: get them below $50. Does anyone have suggestions for where I might start on this project?

My institution is encouraging us to save the students money by lowering the cost of course materials. I would like to do this for our introduction to American government class.

The entire business model of R1 public universities rests on 4 revenue sources:

1. Federal grants
2. Private gifts/endowments
3. Tuition (esp. from foreign students)
4. State $

For decades, 📈 in 1-3 offset a secular 📉 in 4. Now, 1 & 3 are being decimated & 4 ain't coming back. The math is clear.

Writing was invented over 5000 years ago.

Genuine question: how much of that corpus was written by women?

I mean state decrees, law codes, record-keeping, religious texts, literature, contracts, letters..

My guess?

Before 20th Century?

Less than 1%?
