it really is astounding that a presidential administration crashed the growth trajectory of the wealthiest country on the planet in basically two months

This is right. Putinists argue that Russia’s invasion means Ukraine must concede its sovereignty – the ability to make its own defense and foreign and domestic policy.
Just sent out a post on what I'm calling the "Vatnik-Tell". These are the issues that the real pro-Putin forces want to force on Ukraine. They are worse than a NATO-ban. Its no European peace-keepers and a perverse definition of non-aligned. You've been warned. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

The language and the truth are important here. I’ve had to interrupt both tv and radio presenters who said Trump won a majority of votes. He didn’t.

Donald Trump didn’t win by a historic landslide. It’s time to nip that lie in the bud | Mehdi Hasan
In 2024, we have a new post-election lie – Trump didn’t just win, Republicans say, but he won big. He won a landslide. That’s false

It’s funny when a centibillionaire donates 1m to the inauguration. It’s like the median American donating a couple dollars. It means nothing to the centibillionaire. But it impresses Trump, who is a fake rich person.

Americans and others owe Ukrainians a debt of gratitude for their resistance to Russian aggression. That resistance, which Russian political and media elites cannot understand, is grounded in the simple notion that Ukrainians citizens should choose their leaders.

At the risk of sounding melodramatic, these newspapers were some of the high points of our civilization. I have learned so much from The Observer.
This is it, in a nutshell. US media orgs are obeying in advance (@timothysnyder.bsky.social). And UK ones are acting as useful idiots to some of the worst companies on the planet
Perturbing article by @carolecadwalla.bsky.social on the opaque new ownership of the Observer. At a time when US newspaper owners kowtow to Trump, it's worrying to see a quality UK paper flog itself off for no discernable reason.

AI is rapidly advancing and will be able to enhance the quality of life for all in ways we haven't yet imagined. Meanwhile, President-elect Elon Musk and Trump are working to make life harder for everyone in the United States except for themselves and a handful of Billionaires. This is real evil.

So even before being sworn in, Trump is caught lying about, and is called out by an actual leader, President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum. Trump is determined to make America a laughingstock around the world.

Oliver has it exactly right. The propositions that Donald Trump is a pathologically lying conspiracy theorist, and that defending him (as the cases of Jennings and many others we know have long illustrated) necessitates mendacity, are provable and proven facts, not tendentious opinions.

This is so confusing.

Trump rapes and sexually assaults at will. He has surrounded himself with sex criminals his whole life, going back decades.

Major media knows this. It's reported this.

And now it credulously reports that the Trump team thinks a sex-crime allegation could be a problem? What?
Breaking news: Senior officials on Donald Trump’s transition team weighed the future of Pete Hegseth, Trump’s choice to lead the Defense Department, amid new revelations that police investigated an allegation that he sexually assaulted a woman in 2017.
Trump team weighs Pentagon pick after sexual assault allegation surfaces
Trump’s pick for secretary of defense was investigated in a 2017 incident in California, Monterey police said. Hegseth’s lawyer said police found “no evidence” of wrongdoing.
