Have you ever returned to a job role after leaving for further education? I have an opportunity to apply for a short contract in the same team I left (at a higher pay point). It makes financial sense, but it feels a little strange to do.

Peter Dutton, aligning with billionaires over his own electorate? Stuffing cash into bags instead of sand? Astonishing. Truly.

Clive Palmer emulates Musk to get Dutton elected
Nutjob candidates, cooker alliances & crocodile tears notwithstanding, Palmer's endgame isn’t winning seats, it's ensuring the party with "drill, baby, drill" mentality is in power, writes managing editor @michellepini.bsky.social

THIS! There is *nothing* cheaper or easier than an idea. Any morning—and I’m not *that* wildly creative—I get half a dozen ideas for novels before I’ve even had my tea. But the novel comes of the work of distilling an idea up through your brain, in *your unique voice.* Not some answering machine’s.
"Prompt Engineers" swear they are doing something b/c they had A Thought. But you fools. You bores. You absolute fucking turnips.

The Art isn't the Thought, the Idea. The Art is The Work.

And this isn't some art hoe bullshit, this is about craft.

I am learning that I enjoy figure development in Illustrator - until I have to make fine-detail adjustments over four+ similar figures.

Also, excel graphs have too many extra bits when they are copied in.

Today's achievement is almost 80 tiny histograms of logging data from my samples. These are from sub-samples of coal seams that includes at 20m+ seam. It's a really fascinating sequence forming just before a major marine transgression - that 20m+ seam is >200,000 years worth of peat mire formation.

How do you tackle finishing your PhD thesis when you lost enthusiasm for your project about six months ago? It's so damn close to being finished, but infuriatingly far at the same time.

News editor friends, next year is the 50th anniversary of “Jaws.” This movie had (and still has) a major impact on public perception of sharks and ocean science.

I’d like to write a feature-length retrospective on its lasting and mixed legacy. Who wants to hire me to do that?
