quintessential trick of the freeway industrial complex - claim to build a freeway for a certain number of lanes, but plan for wide lanes so you can conveniently restripe it whenever you want. supersizes the project, adds enormous costs to taxpayers (and lines pockets of highway lobby contractors!)

Caltrans has released a cross section for the ultimate (raised viaduct) version of SR-37.

Now maybe I'm just being paranoid, but if you were building a road that you planned to keep at 4 lanes wide, I don't think it would look like this.

I find this encouraging, from @indivisible.org:

A defining feature of an emerging authoritarian regime is that it makes the opposition feel like shit on a daily basis. Every day, there is some new atrocity committed; some new institution attacked; some new democratic norm demolished. Some of it -- much of it -- we have little ability to stop in the moment.

But that’s not how to measure the health of an anti-authoritarian movement. Instead, we should measure it this way:

Are we more unified than we were before?
Are we bigger than we were before?
Are our tactics proliferating?
Is the regime’s popularity falling?

Why the sudden vitriol? Anne was trying to discuss. Also, seniors, disabled people and children are the most vulnerable to being killed by drivers. By reducing car use through restricting access *with exceptions for those with disabilities*, we seek to make the street safer and accessible for all.
