I found my first Gulf Stream Orphan while collecting macroalgae in Cape Elizabeth this week; a Spotfin Butterflyfish (Chaetodon ocellatus), no bigger than my fingernail.

I love the theory behind 'aesthetics', utopian scholastic has a place in my heart because it also has a very specific sound associated with it too and you'll know it the moment you hear it.

Time to learn about shit on a CD ROM:

Give folks their flowers

No, I mean right now. Go tell someone you loved their work right now. They're on social media just say it, it has never been easier

"They know how much people love--" no they don't go say it right now to a composer or artist or game dev or writer or anyone AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

Quality label of the highest order 🏅
Screenshot of an oval shaped sticker design. In the center is a cartoon style sacabambaspis, an extinct fish with an oval shape. The top half of the fish is grey, the bottom white. The face is simple with two dots for eyes and a triangle-shaped open mouth. I drew arms on the fish so he can give a thumbs up. Around the fish is text in yellow with a black outline. The text at the top says "Sacabam", the text at the bottom says "tastic", so it's a wordplay on sacabambaspis.

Love a Flower Hat Jelly (Olindias formosa) - photo credit: Monterey Bay Aquarium
A photo of a Flower Hat Jelly on a black background. The Jelly is translucent neon green with black squiggles down its medusa. White oral arms, which look like fuzzy, spiraled pipe cleaners, peek out from the center of the jelly. Dozens of delicate blue-purple tentacles bloom in all directions from the edge of the bell, each tipped with a bright spot of electric yellow and then purple.

Thank you @adn.com for publishing my obituary for perhaps the most beloved bear in the world: the late, great, king 480 Otis.
adn.com
Fat Bear Week has arrived, featuring some of the biggest and brawniest bears of Brooks River. But longtime fans will note that there are several beloved bears missing from this year’s bracket.
Remembering 480 Otis, the ‘Buddha of Brooks Falls’ and Fat Bear Week’s greatest champion
With four Fat Bear Week titles and a Zen master approach, the bear had garnered plenty of fans since it was first sighted in 2001.

I was asked yesterday to post a walkthrough of Life Over Time, the shortest-lived and generally weirdest iteration of the Field Museum’s fossil halls. If you visited between 1994 and 2004, this is the version you saw. I’ve got some time, so let’s do this.
A carnival-like exhibit entrance with a dinosaur skull, coelacanth model, and pantodont skeleton in cases under freak show-style banners labeling them as "Mesozoic terror" and "the fish that wouldn't die'

#OTD 19 September 1991, walkers in the high Ötztal alps on the Italian border, found a body melting out of the ice. It turned out to be the remains of a c.5200 year old man preserved with all his kit.
Of course, it was essential to replicate him in Playmobil.

And, from the Florida Museum’s page on C. ocellatus: “English language common names include spotfin butterflyfish, butterbun, common butterflyfish, katy, school mistress, and two-spotted butterflyfish.” - delightful
