🗓️ Seeing as we're into the local history societies' talks season, I blew the dust off the Threadinburgh dot Scot events calendar to put my various offerings there.
🤦‍♂️Somehow I've managed a complete diary car crash of 3 talks in 10 days at the end of this month! threadinburgh.scot/events-calen...
Threadinburgh Talks Calendar
Writing about local history inevitably leads to one being invited to talk about local history and I’m fortunate (and always more than a little honour) that local interest and heritage groups …

Just wait until it rains for the first time. Fortunately it rarely does round these parts at this time of year

Call me old-fashioned if you will, but I think I preferred Queensferry before it was made out of paper.

We've began work on our £3.5m transformation project of Queensferry High Street and the town centre.

These improvements will create a safer, more accessible, and vibrant environment for residents, visitors, and businesses alike.

I'm sure there's parts of Glasgow where it would go down equally similar to Stockbridge. Should try some central belt town like Harthill or Stoneybridge for a real litmus test!

I realise there will be a queue of dweebs 3 hours deep at this joint come opening day who don't realise - or don't want to know - that you can get a better roll at Bayne's for a quarter of the price

Can honestly say I've never wished a business more ill will than I have than with a "viral London morning roll pop-up" seeking to introduce morning rolls to Scotland via the medium of Stockbridge.
Fuck off all the way back to Angel and don't stop until you find yourselves in the sea.

The attic/upstairs is original I think given the feature maid of the stairway ceiling and stained glass. My understanding is a bungalow can have an upper floor so long as it's within the roof space like this - and still be a bungalow - it doesn't all need to be on one floor.

Think how many period dramas and Agatha Christie whodunnits we could film here!

Cockburn a perfectly normal Scottish street name. Never understood the (mainly American )sniggering around this one either.

Why also isn't the second one right?

I'm aware of such a thing but in my case only extends to exchange of Edinburgh and Scottish history books. I'm more than sure it exists for other niche and regional interests though!

Genuinely UNBELIEVABLE...

Delivering a letter launching my pedestrian safety petition on the junction of Easter Road & Dalmeny Street / St Clair Street, & emerge out a stairwell to another crash.

Spoke to Police & everyone ok but shaken up.

This can't keep happening.
An out of focus letter and a collision on a street corner.

My dad has turned up this photo from a visit "many years ago" to the Forth Bridge. I think it's taken from what he calls the howff, just below track level, used by the maintenance workers.

I guess when you're engaged in a proverbially endless task, you need a wee cup of tea once in a while.
Black and white photo showing a kettle on the sill of a very dirty window. Immediately outside the window is the very recognisable steelwork of the Forth Bridge.
