Watching alleged ICE agents break into people's home while declaring they don't need warrants definitely makes me feel safe.

The recent ICE raid which emptied an entire apartment building was apparently at the request of Wells Fargo, which is trying to foreclose on the building.

The building is in a 27 million dollar foreclosure filed by Wells Fargo. The next day, Wells Fargo filed an emergency motion for receivership. The fascist regime kindly emptied the building for donor Wells Fargo.

In the late #90s, I perceived Lilith Fair as a very white female, acoustic, granola-y music festival…a perception not contradicted by the larger culture. I legit didn’t know the lineup included Black artists (Tracy Chapman, Queen Latifah, Erykah Badu, Missy Elliott and more) until the #documentary.
Entertainment Weekly magazine cover featuring Fiona Apple, Joan Osborne, Sarah McLachlan, and Sheryl Crow. The issue, from a week in July 1997, has as its cover story Lilith Fair, “Summer’s Hottest Ticket.”

I’m watching the Lilith Fair documentary on Hulu and Sarah McLachlan was explaining the “fair” part of the festival name and she said it was a play on wards, that “fair” could mean “equal”, “attractive”, or “a celebration”.

And I thought, “But Sarah, ‘fair’ can also mean ‘white’.” 🤷🏾‍♀️ Ijs.

Considering recent events, We Gon' Be Alright feels more relevant today. During the first year of the pandemic, I bought my copy from the oldest, #BlackOwned indie bookstore in the US: Marcus Books, down the street from where I lived in Oakland, California. www.instagram.com/marcus.books #AmReading
My trade paperback copy of We Gon' Be Alright: Notes on Race and Resegregation, by Jeff Chang, across which is lying a Marcus Books Stores bookmark (“Books by and About Black People Everywhere”).

We Gon' Be Alright was published during the first term of that person currently in the WH. So far, it reads as words of warning (that have gone unheeded), a history text, and socioeconomic study. Ultimately, the book feels hopeful and meant to inspire. I’m sure Chang didn’t expect this second term.
Asian American author Jeff Chang in this color photo taken outside, seemingly in an alley lined with red brick walls on which is spray-painted graffiti. It’s daytime, and Chang is standing by a graffitied red-brick wall with his body turned away from the camera. He’s wearing eyeglasses and a grey buttoned-up grey shirt over a white undershirt.

Currently reading: We Gon' Be Alright, by Jeff Chang. With the subtitle Notes on Race and Resegregation, this collection of essays by Chang was published in 2016 by Macmillan imprint Picador. I started it a few days ago. us.macmillan.com/books/978031... #books #activism #BlackLivesMatter #AmReading

Well, this explains why I saw a white bookcase being carried out/picked up earlier. Looks good!

The Ditto machine had its own room in the school building, down the hall from the classrooms (and across the hall from the nurse’s/sick room). The teacher selecting you to run the Ditto machine was a chance to leave class and also meant you were trusted/reliable. Felt like a big job to a little kid!
ginamurrell1.bsky.social
I was going to say “yes,” but then I realized I was thinking about the Ditto machine, which my elementary school used in the 1980s to make duplicates of blank tests, forms, etc., for distribution. If one of us kids were lucky, we got chosen to turn the handle. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirit_... #80s

total novice to analog recording but I finally figured this piece out. It's a quadraphonic machine from 1974 when record companies were selling music for 4 speakers (?), which seems like the precursor to 5.1? Short lived tech. I thought I could multitrack on this but it's only stereo/quad. So live!

NOTICE OF STORE CLOSURE
To Our Valued Customers,
This Claire's location has been permanently closed. The decision reflects both external pressures & internal restructuring. In recent months, repeated attacks of ridicule by radical left agitators have gone beyond mere criticism, escalating into a deliberate effort to destabilize our company - conduct we recognize as Domestic Economic Terrorism.
At the same time, our transition under new private equity ownership required difficult financial choices. Protecting the stability of shareholders was prioritized, & this store - along with its local workforce - was deemed expendable in service of that obligation.
Despite these challenges, Claire's remains committed to our identity as a traditional American company rooted in values of family & community.
We will not be silenced by those who attempt to undermine that mission, & we continue to move forward with confidence in our future.
Here at Claire's, we look forward to working with the current administration to reinvigorate our brand presence across the United States, ensuring that we remain a part of American life for generations to come.
We invite you to continue supporting Claire's by shopping online at www.claires.com
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

If I had known Rite Aid was gonna go belly up, I would’ve stockpiled that shade of BLK/OPL stick foundation 😭

Also, the shelves in the Rite Aid that was by me in Queens were always empty. So, it was pointless (and depressing) to go there anyway. Though I did get my passport photo taken there 🤷🏾‍♀️ #NYC

Rite Aid was the only drugstore that sold #BlackOwned cosmetic brand BLK/OPL (aka Black Opal), which makes my preferred stick foundation (in Hazelnut, a shade eternally out of stock on the BLK/OPL website but in stock at Rite Aid). I’ve yet to see BLK/OPL in-store anyplace else. blackopalbeauty.com

The acting CDC director has finally signed off on the vaccine advisory panel's recommendations for the COVID vaccines.

While the CDC is trying to sell this as a win for antivaxxers, in reality this means that COVID vaccines will be more accessible than they have been in recent weeks.
CDC Immunization Schedule Adopts Individual-Based Decision-Making for COVID-19 and Standalone Vaccination for Chickenpox in Toddlers

ATLANTA—October 6, 2025— The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today updated its adult and child immunization schedules to apply individual-based decision-making to COVID-19 vaccination and recommend that toddlers receive protection from varicella (chickenpox) as a standalone immunization rather than in combination with measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination. The immunization schedules adopt recent recommendations by the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which were approved last week by Acting Director of the CDC and Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services Jim O’Neill. The schedules will be updated on CDC.gov by October 7, 2025.

Today (Monday): This morning, I woke up without a headache and was less achy overall. No longer fatigued. Still some tenderness in my upper arm. It helped knowing the discomfort was temporary and that I have some protection going into this cold/flu season. Also, #CovidIsntOver. #PublicHealth #NYC

My side effects with this year’s flu shot and COVID booster (Moderna):

Friday (day of vaccination): Sore upper arm, fatigue.

Saturday: Sore upper arm, fatigue, body aches, headache, feeling of slight unsteadiness while standing and walking.

Sunday: Sore upper arm, fatigue, body aches, headache.

Today, I took a late lunch break during which I got my flu shot and my COVID booster at a local CVS. 💪🏾 #boosted #PublicHealth #NYC
