todays my birthday.

it’s also the day 16 years ago I discovered that a customer for the data center I worked at had racked 3 full cabinets with over $200k of brand new server hardware on top of $80 of canned soda from our customer lounge vending machine to avoid spending $600 on mounting rails

I think this was the desired option, but it's not what industry wanted. Is Labor actually doing something good???

I interviewed historian @emmashortis.bsky.social on the particulars of American fascism, comparisons with Nazism, the global crisis of democracy, and Australia's options. None of this is particularly cheery stuff, but you might find some clarity in it.

Questions for Michaelia Cash:

1. Do you think the UK, home to the King of Aus, is rewarding terrorism by recognising Palestine?
2. Is France?
3. Canada?
4. Is the refusal to sanction Israel rewarding war crimes?
5. Is the continued recognition of Israel rewarding genocide?

Australia has a gas export problem.

Australia Institute research shows 80% of Australia’s gas is exported by foreign-owned gas corporations...who then tell us we have a gas shortage.

Australia has enough gas, it's where it's going that's the problem.

The white men fantasizing about the return of American manufacturing don’t actually think they or their kids will be working in the factories. This is their American individual idealism at work: they believe there will always be someone else working hard for their benefit

1. One of capitalism’s greatest successes is to shut down our imaginations. With the help of its favoured tools - neoliberalism and fascism - it persuades us that “there is no alternative”. Our first task is to re-ignite our moral imaginations and name our alternatives. 🧵
