Three years after my husband died, I’m still trying to prove our life together was worth losing his family.

What I live with isn’t forgetting — it’s the blurring of memory.

On the third anniversary, I wrote about grief, memory, and continuing without answers.

(Semafor) - The New York Times and Washington Post learned of a secret US raid on Venezuela soon before it was scheduled to begin Friday night — but held off publishing what they knew to avoid endangering US troops ..

It's almost difficult to communicate to people who've never worked in the industry how nearly useless Venezuelan oil is.

Everyone claiming that is why this is happening (on all sides!) is either deeply stupid or just lying.

one of the dumbest parts of this is the idea that oil producers actually want their holdings in venezeula back, which they do not. it’s a war for oil no one really wants.

A deluge of work on regime change after the 2003 invasion of Iraq yielded strong (and rare) agreement in IR: it doesn't work & has terrible consequences. @profdownes.bsky.social's book Catastrophic Success lays it out, but it's right there in the title. www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/book/9781501...

grim posthumous scenario i had not previously considered: you post a picture of the missile headed straight for you, and are memorialized by a bunch of random assholes complaining about alt text

You have to wonder if the strikes on the "drug boats" were just a way to test which generals would follow illegal orders wrt an undeclared war with Venezuela and weed out those who wouldn't.

This person went on a buying spree over the past 24 hours. Fresh wallet. Only existed since Dec 27th and has only bet on Venezuela-related markets.

Tomorrow morning Jan 3, the Sun and Moon align to pull the Earth's seas toward SF, with tides peaking over +7' around 10:30 am. We're fortunate there's little rain expected then. If you have luxury of time, visit the bayshore to see our near-future baseline
Tomorrow’s high tide will be the highest tide since 1998. 🌕

a loss to San Francisco and to me personally. we played there for years and years until there was really no way for us to play there. "too big" I guess but I will never be bigger in my mind than what the Bottom of the Hill is in my heart.
