Today in 1968, astronaut and lunar module pilot Bill Anders took this photograph as Apollo 8 orbited the Moon. “Oh my God. Look at that picture over there! There’s the Earth comin’ up. Wow, is that pretty!”

(Anders’ original photograph was in black-and-white. NASA later remastered it into color.)

Wow. Genuinely shocked, and a hugely consequential decision.

Importantly, this is a case where @martylederman.bsky.social's amicus brief appears to have made a MAJOR impact. Before he wrote it, courts were sidestepping the "regular forces" issue entirely. And that's what the Trump admin lost on.
NEW: By a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court blocks Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to Chicago to assist immigration agents. A majority holds that he likely lacks authority to do so. Thomas, Alito, and Gorsuch dissent. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...

DoJ is in open defiance of the law manipulating the Epstein files, ICE is holding American citizens in custody and the President is sticking his name on whatever building he likes in DC.
WASHINGTON (AP) — At least 16 files from Epstein release disappeared from DOJ webpage, including photo of Trump, with no explanation.

The team that has adopted “hard to kill” as its slogan brings out 50 Cent to perform while down 10 before the fourth quarter and immediately scores a touchdown capping a 75 yard drive.

College football is the greatest theater in human history.

Don’t worry Oklahoma, as John McCain would say it’s always darkest before it turns pitch black.

I was thinking what the hell is with people around Epstein taking a zillion candid photos and then I remember the late 2000s were just kinda like that, when everyone you knew uploaded 60 new photos to facebook on Sunday

Between eliminating USAID, gutting NASA and sticking his name on the cultural center does DJT have a JFK obsession that hasn’t been reported on?

A Rookie QB led the Commanders to their best season in a generation last year
Wild to me that people are freaking out about THE QB DEVELOPMENT CRISIS in a season when three of the teams with the NFL’s best records—New England, Denver and Chicago—have quarterbacks drafted *last year.*

A move 30 years in the making. Many folks cite Clinton sailing a pair of carriers through the strait as the moment the CCP decided to modernize its military and build a blue water navy.
China’s newest aircraft carrier, the Fujian, steamed through the Taiwan Strait this week for the first time since being commissioned, a move closely monitored by Taiwan amid ongoing tensions with Beijing.

Long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, a young boy was raised by his aunt and uncle on a “moisture farm.”
I selfishly asked @alexckaufman.bsky.social to write this because I wanted to know what's been going on with atmospheric water generation. And then mid-reporting, Omar Yaghi won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Which was...um...totally our plan all along. www.technologyreview.com/2025/12/17/1...
This Nobel Prize–winning chemist dreams of making water from thin air
Omar Yaghi thinks crystals with gaps that capture moisture could bring technology from “Dune” to the arid parts of Earth.
